Zimbabwe: Mugabe Deploys Pardoned Rapist On Campaign Trail

The international media focus on Zimbabwe has been significantly lessened since Morgan Tsvangirai’s acceptance of the role of Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister in February 2009. This lack of press attention does not mean that the country’s complex political machinations have been concluded. Ahead of the possible call for national elections by President Robert Mugabe, his ruling party, ZANU-PF, appear to be manoeuvering once again; this time with an increasing focus on the evangelical movements which have found fertile ground for growing support in the midst of recent years of severe economic depression and hardship for the vast majority of Zimbabweans.
