Uganda: Opposition Leaders Arrested

Several opposition MP’s in Uganda including Forum for Democratic Change President Dr. Kizza Besigye and Democratic Party President Norbert Mao have been arrested in Kampala for attempting to lead a ‘walk to work’ protest against rising fuel prices and high cost of living within the East African country.

The current government, headed by the recently re-elected President Yoweri Museveni, and the country’s chief of police have warned that any other large scale street protests will be “dealt with firmly”.
