Malam Bacai Sanha, President of Guinea-Bissau, has died in hospital in Paris, France. The cause of his death is currently unconfirmed but Sanha had spent much of his two years in power receiving treatment for an unknown ailment in both France and neighbouring Senegal. It remains to be seen what impact Sanha’s death will have on a country in which drug trafficking in cocaine has become a major issue over the last decade and where the former leader, João Bernardo “Nino” Vieira, was assasinated within his home amid suspicions of drug links.
